The Prayer Chain is an important part of our church ministry. It began in 1976 and continues to this day.
If you or someone you know has a need for prayer, please
complete a Prayer Request listed in the Bulletin or
Email your request to:
wpresbyterian1@tampabay.rr.com
so the person can be added to the Prayer Chain. In an
emergency, please call the Church office.
Names will remain on the chain for three months unless we have a "Praise the Lord" and then it will be removed. Requests for salvation will remain on the chain for five years. Requests for prayers for cancer and other life-threatening diseases will remain on the chain indefinitely. God is good and He hears our prayers.
"I will exalt you, my God and King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever." Ps. 145:1-2
Prayer Room and Prayer Support Group
The creator of the
Room for Prayer and Woodlawn’s volunteer Ministry Associate
is Rev. Dr. Carolyn Olds Mikels, who participates actively
in the life of the church November – April (the other half
of the year she lives and serves in Maine). The Room for
Prayer itself has been set aside as a hallowed place for
individual and group prayer and contemplation, solitude and
meditation, reading and reflection. It is open when the
church is open, and houses Carolyn’s reference library of
books, files, and periodicals relating to spiritual
formation and discipleship. Carolyn draws on resources
tailor-made to the individual’s spiritual interests at the
point of their need.
Highlighted here are two of Carolyn’s Making Room for Prayer
offerings:
-
Lectio Divina
- the time-honored practice of “praying the scriptures”
- on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. This practice
deepens our friendship with the Spirit of God in Christ
through meditative engagement with the Word. Scriptures
are chosen from those for the up-coming Sunday worship
service.
-
Spiritual
Direction - Spiritual direction began in the early
centuries of Christianity as a way to encourage and
model being “directed” by “listening” to the “wee small
voice of God” within and about one, supported by related
spiritual practices within the context of maturing in
discipleship. To learn more about spiritual direction
and to explore entering into a relationship with Carolyn
for spiritual companioning, please contact the church
office.
To learn more
about these opportunities, please contact the church office
where your inquiry will be directed to Carolyn. You may also
pick up brochures in Fellowship Hall on the literature table
about the Room for Prayer, Lectio Divina, and Centering
Prayer. |
