Outreach Committee
If you want to be in the group that “Plans FUN!” this is the one to join!
The members of the Outreach Committee meet to focus on ways to welcome people, think of fun things to do and…they succeed!
The focus of Outreach is to keep in touch with us: our friends, neighbors and guests, including those who might be looking for a church home, then coordinate events that would be enlightening, fun and educational!
Keep on the look-out around the neighborhood for signs promoting Outreach events, a favorite being the FREE Bingo Friday! on the third Friday of most months. A great camaraderie has developed with the regulars and they’ve begun bringing friends who yell out “BINGO,” then patiently wait to have their numbers checked for the prize! The last game is the clincher, of course, with a bit larger prize, which requires more numbers covered!
The Pet Fair, showcasing our furry friends and ending with a Blessing of the Animals by our Pastor, has been well attended the last three years. We’ve had numerous pet focused groups, associations and vendors attend with demonstrations and training skills. The variety of breeds attending has been fun to see and of course, our pets are family!
The Bazaar in late October or early November has been a popular event each year with the Greater Woodlawn Neighborhood Association joining us with their members having yard sales that Saturday! Our Bakery, Costume Jewelry booth, Plants, and Granny’s Attic are always a big draw. And, many stop in just for a hamburger or hot dog lunch at The Grill in our Courtyard!
Most year committee members have hosted a Kid’s Craft Day or other program in mid-December, well attended by young people and frequently a parent. Sometimes it was a Puppet Show and folks always get to hear the Christmas story. It’s a great event with snacks aplenty and some nice mementos made to be taken home!
