Community Garden

Located in the northeast corner of our grass parking lot across from the sanctuary and church office you’ll see our Community Garden.

And first, we want to honor and remember our beloved friend, member of WPC and “Gardener” Bob Metzler who created our Community Garden in 2010 literally…from the ground up! Bob was the one with the real green thumbs. Sadly for us, Bob left us to join the Lord in 2015. Bob is remembered for many things: his gentle demeanor, his love for his family, WPC and the church family and this country. Each of us thinks lovingly first of Bob when glancing over at the garden.

Other members of Woodlawn’s congregation had assisted Bob by placing the railroad ties, preparing the ground, planting, watering, weeding and harvesting. Starting with a 12′ X 12′ garden, it was soon expanded to 12′ X 24′.

And some months later, we’ve been fortunate to have a gentleman in the community volunteer to continue tending our garden. Others here at WPC with somewhat green thumbs, will help a bit at times, too. The focus is more on fall plantings as our Florida summers are just too hot! Broccoli, cabbage, carrots, collards, green beans, onions, squash and tomatoes have all been grown in Woodlawn’s Community Garden. Neighbors are invited to pick what they need.
